Alleghany Co. Leightons prior to 1800
Posted by: Charlie Leighton Date: June 05, 2000 at 23:49:57
  of 283

My Leighton ancestors were from Rockbridge Co. Virginia, Greenlee, Glasglow, Natural Bridge area. They were at times in Nelson and Botetourt Co's. and my grandfather ended up in Covington, Alleghany Co.
My Leightons are James that married Ann Burrell, 1786; William that married Nancy Sorrell, 1812; John that married Elizabeth Saunders, 1835, Lewis that married Rachel Ann Markham, 1872; John Ernest that married Elmyra Austin, 1900 and my father Charles that married Mildred Kirby, 1927.

I also have an Adam Leighton that married Elizabeth Paynter/Painter, 1828; This may be the same Adam that married Elizabeth Blunt in 1850; Isaac N. that married Sarah Adams in 1830; John that married Susanna Forster, abt. 1821. I have not connected these but, they all were from Nelson or Amherst Co. Va, prior to migrating to Rockbridge, Botetourt and
Alleghany Counties.
The parents of Adam, Isaac and John may be the link I need to connect all of the above.
Any information will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Charlie Leighton
