Mary I found part of the journal difficult to read. I understand that the language used was regional and acceptable at that time and that it was not written to be read by the public at large. I had long suspected that there was non white blood in our line from Ruth Persinger but I always assumed that it was Native American and not black. Do you know if her mother was a slave? Is there any other evidence about her racial background? Was Ruth the sister of the Sara Persinger mentioned in the journal? Is the Polly mentioned Mary Persinger? I had heard that Ruth Persinger Humphries was a midwife and folk healer so found the stories about her interesting. How many of Sarah Persingers family went to Indian territory during time of the trail of tears? I did not know that some Persingers from this line were listed in census records as mulatto and black. Does anyone know what ever happened to the family of David Persinger that moved to the North so that he and his family could pass as white? I had read a report on the massacre of the Indians at White Rock gap before reading about it in the journal. Does anyone know where the cabin was located in that area?
