The Fridley Family of Alleghany County, Virginia traces its ancestors to Switzerland and the Palatine region of Germany. (According to the Alleghany County Heritage published by Alleghany County in 1997). The first recorded Fridley in Alleghany County was John Jacob Fridley, the son of George Fridley and Margaret Armentrout of Augusta County. John Jacob was the great grandson of Ludwig Friedle from Germany and the grandson of Ludwig and Margaret Fridley of Augusta County.

The Armentrout/Hermontrodt family sailed on the ship Samuel to America and settled in Rockingham County, VA. My Ancestor, John Peter Dressler came to America on the same ship and had a close relation to this family, however, I have not found a kinship. They were among the early settlers of what is now Alleghany County and were in the area prior to the its formation in 1822.
