Hello, Jessie,
I show the following:
Brown, Marshall: Co K. Enlisted 6/18/61 in Botetourt Co. On leave 11/28/61 through 12/30/61. Present until AWOL 9/63. Present 10/63 through final roll. Born 1823. Died 1918, buried Shiloh Cem.,Eagle Rock. Don't be concerned about the desertion, it was not uncommon for the men to desert to go home and harvest crops and then return.
You might want to contact the National Archives in Washington to get his Combined Service record. It may or may not have more information. Delivia
