Dear Gloria,
I did a little bit of research on Robert Preston Utz, born 1854, died 1898, married to Sarah Elizabeth Aylor, born 1856, died 1935.R.P. Utz was the son of Oliver Joel Utz, born 1832, died 1872, and Ann Virginia Drake, born 1831, died 1871.The Utz and Aylor families were founding members of Hebron Lutheran Church in Madison County, Virginia.Hebron Lutheran Church, founded in the 1720's by the Germanna Colonists, is the oldest continuous-use Lutheran Church in the U.S.The church and part of the original northern portion of Utz farm land was less than one mile apart, so I would think there is a very good chance that R.P. Utz is buried in Hebron's cemetery.
I don't think there is an online list of names of the people who are buried at Hebron, however I'm certain that you could e-mail or phone the church and ask them if your relative is buried there. If the church does not list him in their cemetery archives, then please check with The Library of Congress online, American Memory Homepage, Civil War Maps Division for Madison County, Virgina.During the War between the States, the U.S. Generals often commissioned four or five maps of the same area...topographical, grids & plats, names of homeowners, etc...and these maps are very detailed. If there was an Utz family cemetery, it would be shown on one of those maps.
I hope this information helps!
Happy hunting,
Cheryl
