I have some handwritten notes from the 1920's that may or may not be valid today considering that 80 years of further research has been done.
UTLEY FAMILY
" In the earlier part of the 18th century William Utley came to America from the Isle of Man and settled in Conn and afterwards came to Wake Forest, Wake County, NC in 1753 and bought land. He had 5 sons, Daniel, Jacob, John, Isham, and William. Isham married and had 4 sons, William, Gabriel, Jacob, and Littlejohn. Littlejohn was born in Wake Co, NC Feb 7, 1775 and married Sarah Walton in 1798 whose father was active in the Revolutionary War. His name was William Walton. The emigrant William Utley landed at Stonington, Rhode Island when he came to America. The Utley's of Worcester Mass, descended from the same emigrant and some years ago Judge Samuel Utley of that place was compiling records of the family."
Another part of the notes continue; " Utley, b. 1715, d. 1794, wife Elizabeth. William Utley came from Wales early in the 18th century and settled in Conn. His son (or grandson) William settled in Edgecomb Co.,NC in 1753 and settled 18 miles South of Raleigh on Swift Creek. He had 7 sons & 2 daughters; Hezakiah, b 1754, m. Elizabeth Harrison 1784, Jacob, b. 1756, m. Phoebe, 2nd wife, John, b, 1758, m. Cook, David, b. 1760 m. Mary Perry 1791, Wm Jr., Isham m. Mary Myatt 1792, Littleton, Lucy m Hardy Sanders, Cynthia m Mathew Myatt.
Does anyone know If Judge Samuel Utley ever published his genealogy records?
The notes continue with other North Carolina Utley's, land records, and military service.
Several DAR #'s are recorded and may be worth pursueing to someone who has access to the books; #61561, #176044, #145658, # 61564.
Some of the notes above may be from some of these records but is not recorded.
