There was a coat of arms in the house we lived in back in the forties and fifties. My sister recalls it better than I do, remembering that it was quartered, there being three doves in one, sheaf or sheaves of corn in the other, what she thinks was a vertically opening gate in another ... We had and still have a genuine horse brass, beautifully made, in the form of a crescent holding what is clearly an abundant sheaf of oats.
The motto which I too remember was "Peace and Plenty". The Utleys were not in fact nobility, but were yoeman farmers in the Keighley area of Yorkshire. I think they were a Catholic family - certainly all my own immediate forbears were.
I will get some more information later, and if it is interesting, will post it. Peter James Bellew Utley
