Elijah was born in New York . He was taught the gospel and joined the Church as a young man. He found his way in life as a farmer and provided well for his family. After marriage in Ohio , they seemed to have kept on the move, living in two places in Ohio , where their first two children were born. They lived in Indiana where the next two were born and then moved to Morgan County, Illinois , undoubtedly for the Church. Their next move was to Jackson Co., Illinois , and then they headed west with the saints. Upon their arrival in the Valley, they settled in Benjamin, Utah , where they lived out their lives.
