The Old 'Mo (USS Monticello LSD35)

My late brother Tim Nowak served on the Monticello from 1960-1964. I am interested in finding out where the Old Mo was at the time of JFK's assassination and would love to hear from any shipmates. Did the crew go into battle stations when they heard about JFK? I believe Tim was a signalman 3rd class and that they did go to Hong Kong and Subic Bay.
I would also like to know how I can get his service records. Where do I write?
Thank you,
Dana Nowak
