If your father filled out his enlistment papers and listed being color-blind he was rejected before a complete exam was done. If he didn't list it and he went through the whole physical, all they did was listen to his heart with a stethoscope and ask if he had chest pains with physical exertion, shortness of breath or fainting. Unless the genetic defect affected the beating of the heart then the docs wouldn't "discover" it. There were no X-rays or treadmill type tests done.
You might try the NARA or State Archives for the local Draft Board records as your would have been given a F4 or 4F rating precluding him from being drafted by law.
Husband enlisted Navy WWII so went through physical. He feels the docs doing physical would not have found any genetic defect unless it involved a irregular heartbeat, or murmur that was heard at that time. It was no where near a "physical" as physicals are done today.
