U.S. Naval T.C. Sampson, New York 8-23-1945

My father Junius Harold Dowell was in the training class of which I have a photo and on the back it has a list of names of the class. I don't know if it is a complete list. My Dad probably went by the name Harold or a nickname Jun. After his training he was placed on the USS Balitmore V crusier 68. After some reading I found that the crusier was one of the biggest and that it was nicknamed the Big B.
When my father served on the crusier it was during the time naval operations were in Japan (29 november 1945 - 17 Febuary 1946). He never spoke of what he did and I asked one time and he said we went in and cleaned up. I wasn't very old and I thought after the bombing. After doing research I found that they served with the 3rd & 5th fleets and bombed into the shore of Japan while the other forces did what they were suppose to do.

I found this out sadly after my father passed away 13 years ago. If anyone has or had a family member that was on the same ship. I would love to hear from them.

Or if anyone was in that training class I would also like to hear from them. There were only four others from KY in the class: Owen R. Mohler, Mayfield; Aubrey Wilson Easley, Mayfield; Clyd Oldson, Paris; James Edward ?
