Bancroft's History of California, Vol V (pgs 499-523), pub 1886, describes some of the US military units that served during the Mexican-American War in California. Included in these pages is a description of the formation, deployment, and disbanding of the New York (NY) Volunteers, the primary focus of this posting.
Footnotes on pgs 503-504 indicate the following were NY Volunteers senior personnel. Bancroft’s listing is by Regimental Staff and Company and has been rearranged alphabetically for ease of search. Bancroft makes the following amplifications in his original version:
