Here's what I found in the rosters that I have for Ohio soldiers in the Mexican War:
1st Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry

Appointed Corporal 6 June 1846; reduced 10 October 1846; mustered out with company 15 June 1847.
This company (Company F) was recruited 6 June 1846 at Lower Sandusky, Ohio.
1st Regiment was organized at Camp Washington near Cincinnati on 28 June 1846 and departed a few days later on steamer 'New World' for New Orleans. Commanded by Col. Alexander M. Mitchell.

2nd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry

There were Regiments 1,2,3,4, and 5, plus Independent Companies plus the 15th Regiment with Companies B,C,D,H, and I). Regiment 5 was officially called 2nd Regiment 2d.
There was no 6th Regiment of Ohio Volunteers in the Mexican War that I can find.
