Hi Judith,
The 3rd Ohio Volunteers, commanded by Samuel Ryan Curtis, did indeed garrison Camp Buena Vista (established a few miles south of Saltillo after the battle Buena Vista). They marched through the city of Saltillo on March 26, 1847, (the battle was fought Feb 22-23, 1847) pausing only to return the salute of the Illinois troops stationed in the city before proceeding out to Camp Buena Vista and reporting to General Wool.
The best published source for info on the 3rd Ohio is Joseph Chance's book, "Mexico Under Fire Being the Diary of Sameul Ryan Curtis During the American Military Occupation of Northern Mexico, 1846-1847." Fort Worth: Texas Christian University Press, 1994. I glanced at the index and the two men you mentioned do not appear. I am sorry I can't be of more help!
With kindest regards,
