There was a battle at Buena Vista that seems to have occured in the spring or summer of 1847. There is a great website, Descendants of Mexican War Veterans, that you may find valuable for further understanding of the events regarding Matamoros and the various battles. I have a veteran in my lineage from the 3rd Ohio infantry who was in Matamoros for most of his service, and also was in Buena Vista and Camargo. The information I mention above is from his narrative in his pension application. Hope this helps.
