thank-you for the information you provided. Maybe the government could look on line for help, too.

I'm sure there's not another Edward Porter enlisted the same day in the marines. In the newspaper article I have, it states he was one of seven men surviving Chateau Thierry, receiving wounds on Nov. 1 and died two days later. I also have the Western Union telegram to him in Petersburg on June 6, 1917 1220 pm. stating "unexpired portion your furlough revoked...return at once." It's from US NAVY YARDS PHILADELPHI PA. It's interesting to see they activated and deployed just two days later.

George was listed as a private by the funeral home records with the 15th coast artillery Marine Band. Maybe I can check army records, since that's where you are finding him. They list him stationed at Fort Kamehameha. I didn't look in Hawaii for him on the 1930 census. My grandfather had moved most of his younger brothers to Brooklyn, NY by then.

The 1920 census from Petersburg has all the brothers living with their aunt, some having returned from WWI after service in the cavalry (Mexico) Navy (USS Pennsylvania) and Marines.

I appreciate any information to help piece things together, and also the history about their units you provided. I will once again copy and send in another request to NARA. I did call the Commandant of the Marine Corps and was referred to the historical branch. I actually spoke to someone who promises me a call within two weeks with any information they discover. New hope toward getting their markers.
Again, Thank-you, Thank-you for your response. It may also help someone else looking for info.
