no headstone or service markers for two brothers
I have been trying to find military records for two brothers buried in family plot Blandford cemetery Petersburg.
I have contacted NARA, and will again with all info. available in order to remedy this. They have "conducted extensive search" and are "unable to verify military service".
The two in question are:
Edward Porter Nunnally
dob 24 sept. 1899
enlisted 1915
served in Haiti
appointed sergeant 1 july 1917
with headquarters 5th regiment
expeditionary force,
UNITED STATES MARINES
died from wounds Nov 3,1918
France
I have a telegram from US Navy Yards Philadelphia, Pa. addressed to him stating:unexpired portion your furlough revoked return at once
Long
newspaper clipping with death notice/ and a letter from the treasury dept bureau of war risk insurance stating he applied for this April 8, 1918.....
a letter to his aunt approving a payment from the Vererans Administration....I don't understand how they can't find records.
George Washington Nunnally
dob 10 March, 1910
died 13, sept. 1932
Private 1st class 15th coast artillery stationed at Fort Kamehameha, Hawaii. The funeral director has Marine band, I thought he was in the Navy.Understand he died with others in car accident off Koko head.
If anyone can give me any advice, I would so greatly appreciate it.I would like to know they have flags on their graves / and something showing they served their country.
Thank-you in advance
