Thanks for the response, Curtis. I am aware that you can not sync computer to computer, but I think you may sync multiple computers/devices to your online tree at Ancestry.com.
Currently, I do most of my work on my desktop PC which I sync with Ancestry.com. I also use the Ancestry Apps on my iPad and Android Galaxy devices which are both sync'd with my online tree. However, when I load FTM on my laptop and try to download & link my tree, I find no option under New Plan to download the existing tree.
