I have not used the sync feature and expected someone who has to reply.

If I understand correctly you want FTM and Ancestry to sync between your desktop, ancestry public tree and your laptop keeping all three files in sync regardless of which one you update.

The tree sync feature is limited to one file on one computer and one copy of that file on ancestry. You cannot sync computer to computer. You cannot have a file at ancestry sync to more than one computer.
