I tried another experiment with my test file. The description field is associated with a particular fact, not with a place. When using the Place view to look at a particular place you have the option to add description text to all facts that use this place. If you use this option the text you enter is added to but does not replace the descriptions you may have already entered for some or all of the facts. As an example I had Colestown Cemetery in the description field for a burial fact in Cherry Hill New Jersey. While in Places I went to Cherry Hill and added AAA to all facts associated with Cherry Hill. The description filed now read Colestown Cemetery/AAA. Combining places does not change the description associated with each individual fact.
