I have not used 2010, but it shouldn't be too much different from 2012.
1) Is there a way to change the People view from Pedigree to Family, so that you can look at your data as a normal family tree?

Between the pedigree view and the family view, the separator can be moved up or down when your cursor turns into a double sided arrow.

2) Is there a way to output the data to an image file or something in the Family format?

Under Publish, Relationship Reports, Family Group Sheet, I can export/share that in several formats.
