Well, only speculative--I notice that on the Maryland page at Real Houses of Usher there is a group of Ushers battling in court to do with an estate over a span of a few years--the estate of Thomas Usher, as far as I can make out from these brief entries. If they all lost ("insolvent estate" is listed in 1802-3 ofr John, then Joseph, then Luke Usher), perhaps they all went elsewhere. In any case, these names would seem likely ones to investigate as possible father for William Esmay.
