Yes, we have all been corresponding trying to get to the bottom of this.
Census records we have found that were taken while Esma was alive (1850 and 1860 only) reflect he was from MD.His children listed him as being from GA in later census records.According to records found by the Usher/Pope researchers, Esma died in 1862 in the Civil War.
I remain open to the possibility he is from GA, but have yet to find the proof one way or the other.
