Wm. not on this ship, of course, but it gives
excellent flavor of such a voyage, and it's the
right year to the right port in NZ:

Have checked all relevant ships and dates for
Thos. Sr. to Oz and for Wm. to NZ at the
excellent (thugh far from complete) Immigrant
Ships Transcribers' Guild -- it was quick and
easy, but their names did not appear.
Interesting, nonetheless!

An excellent searchable list from Victoria State
Gov. records office, but only starts in 1852.
This is probably another Thomas Goodall -

**Here's Edward Goodall sailing out to Victoria in
1870, a year after his marriage in Liverpool:
Family Name First Name Age Month Year Ship Port

GOODALL EDWARD 20 OCT 1870 JULIET B 298 001
Here's Edward, his wife, and infant son on same voyage:
Family Name First Name Age Month Year Ship Port
Fiche Page
GOODALL EDWARD 20 OCT 1870 JULIET B 298 001
GOODALL EDWD I OCT 1870 JULIET B 298 001

GOODALL J MR A NOV 1870 GEELONG F 132 1
GOODALL MARY J 23 OCT 1870 JULIET B 298 001
270 Goodalls took the voyage between 1852 and 1923; you can search their names on the database. But for Thomas,Thomas Jr. and William, you need
the 1848-1850 records.
Royal Historical society of Victoria may be able to help for earlier passenger lists. It looks likely the route for Thomas was Liverpool-Melbourne (Port Philip?), and not long afterward, to Launceston, Tasmania; and the year probably 1950 (though I also watched 1848-1849). But it's very patchy going for records earlier than those on the Victoria State
Records Office's otherwise wonderful database. Now, where to findthose earlier records?

Edward's ship, the Juliet - 446 tons - only info., so far.
Here's an older ships' listiInto Victoria:
http://members.iinet.net.au/~perthdps/shipping/mig-vic.htmhttp://members.iinet.net.au/~perthdps/shipping/mig-vic.htm It's a start, anyway.Also:

This looks promising for Otago and William Usher--

Here's the right Juliet (which Edward Goodall sailed on in 1870); others of interest here too: http://www.blaxland.com/ozships/vessel/J/1/13.htmhttp://www.blaxland.com/ozships/vessel/J/1/13.htm
check all other sailings of the Juliet for
further details.HIs ship was a "barque" in use
since at least 1837 - in 1837, it hauled "cargo &
convicts..." In any case, this entire list, A-Z, could be
examined for ships sailing to Port Philip or
Melbourne from Liverpool in 1848-50. You'd then
at least have a list of ships' names in hand to dig around with online.

Searching for the right 'Juliet" to learn more about this ship. This record lists company
owning a"Julia," but built in 1873. Lost or sold, 1874. {Do they name new ships after others lost? Did same company make the earlier Julia, sailing in 1839 andstill in 1870, when Wm.Usher Goodall sailed on it?). Site interesting in its own right.

Here's another ship, the Julia, linked from the above:

(Merely to provide flavor of what ship info. sites are like; new to me.)
The Julia was a "barque"--
http://www.infa.abo.fi/~fredrik/sships/barque.htmlhttp://www.infa.abo.fi/~fredrik/sships/barque.html
Fascinating that only one wooden barque from the 19th century remains today, when it says they were the most common kind of sea transport in that century.
It's all so fascinating that (as you can see) it's hard to stay away! It is possible to fill in blanks in family history this way, however. Easy for Edward, whose travel year we came across earlier. But what about Thomas Sr., whose travel year is also narrowed down? And, where is William? Please excuse me for barging in on your family search, but it's terribly interesting.
Christmas upon us - have a good one.
