If you connect to Ancestry.com, you can search their lastest collection of Passenger Lists. This option goes away at the end of this month.

Leonard Howes is one of the records that you can view. Leonard's middle name is Glover. His father's first name is Henry.

The ships manifest (Laurentic) indicates that Leonard was returning too his ship USS Gedney, which should be tied up in Seattle, Washington by the time he arrives.

The ships manifest is a record of all of the passengers traveling onboard that vessels at that time.

My best guess as per his job classification "Hydrographer", one who listens for unique (man made sounds) sounds under the water.
