USS Machias

I am looking for anyone who may have been aboard the USS Machias during WWII and between the years of 1941-1945, or may have any information regarding the Naval boxing career of my father Joseph Michael Contini aka "One Punch Joey" from Dover, Ohio who was 135 lb "Golden Glove Boxing Champion" over all the Armed forces during this time. I remember seeing newspaper clippings from many different cities when I was little, but everything seems to have been lost through the years. I do have a picture of him and a friend John Cason (147 lb Golden Glove Champ) sparring aboard what I think is the USS Machias.

If anyone has any information or can tell me where such information could be found, it would be greatly appreciated.
