Missing grandfather in Montevideo, Uruguay

Hi

I`m helping a friend who`s trying to locate his gr.fathers whereabout after he left Norway and never came home again. His name was Karl Johan Eriksen (Carl Johan Erikson), born in Kristiansund, Norway in february 1888.
He was a sailor, and when WW2 started, he was on his way home to Norway from the "Grytviken whaling station" in South Georgia in the South Atlantic.
His family in Norway only heard from him once after that, and that was a letter he sent to tell the people back home that he had got a child in Montevideo, Uruguay.
This child was a girl, born probably around 1942-1944.

They don`t know when he died, or where he died, and they don`t know anything about this child other than what I`ve written.
Can anyone help us locate any sources where there might be any information about her birth, name and so on.
The family in Norway are hoping to locate her and to get contact with her.

Wenche
