Soley out of interest and not from any family genealogical link of my own I read of the Christy MacGillivray who must have been over 100 years old when she decided to take the final journey.... must have been the Canadian weather. In any event when I looked up the 1861 Census records of my Island birthplace there were only 11 registered names against the surname MacGillivray. The cemetry has only one "headstone" or Memorial Stone to the surname and it reads.... In Memory of Isabella MacLeod, beloved wife of John MacGillivray - Contractor - born April 30th 1822, and died September 13th 1861 ...... but oddly does not give the date of John's death. He certainly is still not walking around the heather hills of the Island. The last of that family to live on the Island had a small Jewelery Shop in the town and must have died in the late 1950's., and no descendants known to me.
