Hello:In my researching of my father's family in Scotland I received information from a genealogist several years ago. That information was regarding the parents of my great grandmother. My great grandmother was Marion McRae born to John McRae and Catherine Urquhart.John and Catherine are shown in the 1851 census EDS2 Page 6 Nishishee with Marion shown as age 9 at the time. It shows in this census that Catherine was born in Gairloch, Rossshire and was 28 in 1851. In the 1861 censusHarris ED3 Page 4 Nishishee the family shows up again with Catherine shown as age 36 born in Gairloch. The genealogist said that John McRae (MacRae) married Catherine Urquhart Feb 7,1840 and that she was the daughter of Donald Urquhart and Margaret Urquhart.
He also said that the death Reference - 1897 -098-397
Inverness shows Catherine McRae - widow of John McRae died Aug 26,1897 at 11:45 am at 33 Castle Street Inverness. She was approx 65 . She was the widow of John McRae - a Shepherd.Catherine's father was Donald Urquhart - a cattle drover - who is deceased.Catherine's mother was Margaret Urquhart (nee Urquhart) - also deceased. Informant of her death was son John McRae.
So that's where I got this information and I am stuck. Does any of this information show up in anything you may have in your records?I am at a standstill and with so many people with the same names and all the different towns and villages.
Regards and thanks from Cape Breton - Valerie Dingwall Barrett
