My family originated in Ferintosh , Scotland (town not there now, only a church as I understand) and left for America 1770.
William Urquhart left in 1770, married Jannet Urquhart (cousin), and sailed for America. Son, Alexander, born in Dublin while ship was being repaired, then proceeded to America and settled in the Mohawk valley of New York State.
William joined the Kings Royal Regiment of New York, but moved to Canada in 1784 as a United Empire Loyalist.
Alexander married an Anne McRae then a series of Johns and Alexanders up to my father. Too many Johns in the family, they named me Ian :-)
I would like to know more about the Urquharts of Ferintosh who may still be tied to my family.Reference Alexander and Jannet Urquhart for a starting point.
