Hi John I have the following wandering if there is any connections:

James Urquhart farm servant aged 40 died 1874 St Fergus Banff
married to Maria Mess
father William Urquhart
mother Margaret Urquhart m.s. Smith
James married Margaret (Maria) 1861 St Fergus
They had the following children:
Isabella strachan Urquhart 1864, her son William b.1888
William Kidd urquhart 1866
Margaret Smith Urquhart 1861
Jane Mess Urquhart b.1870 d.1932, her children:
Lizzie Helen Keith Urquhart b.1898,
Maria Jane Greig Urquhart b. 1892,
William Urquhart b.?,
George Alexander Keith Urquhart b.1896,
James Ferguson Urquhart b.1889 married Annie Harvie m.s. Barron 1914 died 1936.

Jane Mess Urquhart is/was my grt grd mother.

Amongst others I obtained James b.1889 copy of birth entry from scotgro. He is listed as illegitamate. An amendment has been made to the entry, as yet I havent sent for details of this. However when my grandfather married in 1914 he is listed as James Ferguson father John Ferguson deceased. Elderly members of the family suggest he dropped the Urquhart surname when he joined the forces aged 17.
Amendments have also been made to Maria b.1892 entry. Sorry I dont have details I need to send off for them too.

As Jane Mess Urquhart was listed as single at the time of her death and I have been unable to locate her with a husband in any of the census it suggest she never married.
In the 1881 census Jane was with her mother and sisters. By 1891 she is with another family listed as a cook/domestic whilst her children with their grandmother Maria. In 1901 census Jane is with her children.

All above birth and census details are for St Fergus Banff.

Look forward to hearing from you
Miles of smiles
