John Urquhart (1833 - April 1896)
For many years I have been researching the First US Artillery and the men that served in that unit during the Civil War.One soldier, Private John Urquhart, was born in Inverness in 1833 and enlisted in the First US Artillery in 1858 at Fort Columbus, New York.He served in the First US Artillery Band at Fort Sumter at the beginning of the Civil War in April 1861.He also served in the 14th US Infantry in Utah (1876 - 1878) and finally retired from military service in 1881. In the late 1880s he lived at the Soldiers Home in Washington, DC.He died in April 1896 and is buried in Kansas.
I have no other information regarding his family. If you have any additional information concerning John Urquhart, please email me at:[email protected]
Thank you.
