Ure Family Genealogy Forum

Hi, all - my maiden name was Ure. My grandfather, Harold Ure, was born in upstate NY, in/near the town of Croghan, in Lewis County, and he had a brother named Howard. Their father was named Peter Ure (b. approx. 1878)- he was married to a Julia Johnson, and his brother (some accounts say Floyd, others say Will) was married to Julia's sister Maude. Peter and Floyd/Will's father was Frank Ure, born in approximately 1859 in Croghan, NY, as well. I believe Frank had a brother named Hoseah or Hosiah.
According to oral family tradition, Frank was a minister (denomination unknown), but he left Victoria at some point and moved to the Oswego area - exact location unknown. Apparently, he remarried and started another family there.
I am at a dead end when it comes to finding any Ure ancestry beyond Frank and his time w/ Victoria. I am hoping that someone descended from Hoseah's branch or Frank's second family may have more information on our shared Ure ancestors that they would be willing to share with me - or any clues as to where near Oswego to look next. At this point, anything would be of help!! Last documented info I have is the 1880 US census showing Frank and Victoria living with Peter in Croghan....I'd love to find the Ure that came to the US from Scotland, that we are descended from!
In return for any help you can provide, I am willing to share any and all info I have - both documented and just "oral tradition." Thanks in advance!!
