I am a descendant of Vina Upton (b. abt 1810 TN - 1850 Oregon Co, IN); she m. Brooks Matney. I looked up Uptons In Ripley Co, MO, which is where my Brooks Matney was in 1840, the only Upton is John Upton, b. 1800 GA. (note: my Vina Upton was supposedly b. TN abt 1810, and the birthplaces of this John Upton's chn suggest that he was in TN, too -- so maybe a relative to my Vina?) Vina Upton was apparently a child bride when she m. Brooks Matney, prob. in IL, because their first Matney son b. ILL 1824: George Washington Matney. I know there was a George Washington Upton from NC in the 1790's, but I also know that GW was a popular name at the time. Vina Upton, husband Brooks Matney, and their 6 sons were in IL 1824-1837+, were in Ripley, MO by 1840. They moved to Oregon MO by 1850, where Vina died.
Would love to hear from anyone with ideas about the origins of my Vina Upton Matney. Thanks!
