I found this while researching other names and thought I'd pass it on. Upton is actually a derivative of these other names in some parts of Canada and possibly the USA.
Seems some Utman, Uttman,Ottman's that came through Dundas Cty had their name changed when they went into Lennox & Addington Counties and Haliburton County in Ontario,Canada in the late 1800's.
I found the connection at Roots Web, swedfeger-cdn and a couple othe Swerdfeger sites at the same location.
