Found a Lt. Uptegraff, from Fort Union, during the Texas 'Rebels' invasion of New Mexico at the 'Battle of the Glorieta-Pass' 1861-- (I'm not directly related to the Uptegraff families, although my Grandmother's sister was married to a Uptegraff, and they lived in Portland, Oregon, & had a son William Uptegraff...abt. 1908) But I know from experience, as a McLaughlin Researcher--that any "little-clue" no matter how small--will sometimes be an 'unlocked-door' to some other researchers, if they can only find a 'location, occupation, marriage, or military service-record'--that discloses one hint, of what happened to that one-ancestor--that they haven't any trace of--?! This record of Lt. Uptegraff, is a History covering Fort Union in New Mexico, and is accessed on the "Internet". I did not have any other information, and was surprised to see the name show up at 2 A.M. in the morning, as I was reading on this site... Just trying to help--by passing this information along, it is a part of Civil War History... I know that Uptegraff information is rather scarce--and hard-to-find...
