I went to the following internet address (www.familysearch.com - a site provided by the LDS)

http://www.familysearch.com/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

Type in the name Robert R. Updegraff and United States.
You will get genealogy info for him.
I do not know if it is all accurate.

There is a section where a contact person is provided with an address.
You could mail a letter to him to see if he has further information.

From what I read - I put the following together:

Robert Rawls UPDEGRAFF (AFN:1R3K-5G1)

Father: John F UPDEGRAFF
Mother: Luella RAWL(E)
Born: 17 Apr 1889 Place: Salt Lake City, , Ut
Died: 1 Nov 1977 Place: Scarsdale, , Ny
Buried: Nov 1977 Place: Valhalla, , Ny
Married: Ms ENGSTROM;
possibly living according to this file
possibly a living daughter

There is also a Social Security Death Index for Mr Updengraff which was issued in New York.

Since he died in Scarsdale,NY,you should try to find an obituary for him there.
This city is located in Westchester County, NY.

Westchester County website:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywestch/

Scarsdale,NY website:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywestch/towns/scarsdal.htm

Vahalla,NY is in the same county and here is a site for that town - possible place for an obituary:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywestch/towns/mtpleas.htm

An obituary may include more personal information, ie where he was educated, where he was employed and his wife and children.

Good luck,
Sandi
