Same E. Updegraff was born in 1895 & was son of Alpha Gordon Updergraff whose father, Derrick Updegraff was born in Pittsburg, Pa in 1804.
Alpha Updegraff had 5 brothers: Edward; Daniel; Albert; Samuel. & Martin Eugene.
Edward & Daniel died in Civil War. Albert died abt 1875 in Dodge City, Kn. Samuel disappeared soon after the Civil War (1872) & was never heard of again. Martin Eugene come to Kn with his brother Alpha in the early 70's.
Alpha Daniel (Dr.) had one son named Alpha
Family history dates back to 1688, at which time two men signing their names as Derick Updegraff & Abrahem Up Den graef, signed a protest against slavery at Germantown, Pa. According to info passed down to Sam E Updegraff, son of Alpha Gordon Upderaff, Alpha Gordon was a GGrandson of the Abraham Up Den graeff who signed these articles.
This info was obtained from a ltr from Sam E. Updegraff, 8/8/1934. Ltr head shows Freedom Hardware Company, Freedom, Oklahoma & written to Paul Updegraff, County Atty.
Any additional info you might have on this side of the Updegraff family would be most appreciated.
