"The Upson Family in America" compiled by the Upson Family Association of America, states that Thomas Upson was "possibly married in England" to an unknown wife. Eldest daughter Mary and eldest son Thomas are thought to have been born in England by the unknown wife. Thomas left his wife and daughter Mary in England, and with his oldest son Thomas, landed at Saybrook, CT., and made his way to Hartford, and then to Farmington.

Oldest son Thomas died unmarried on December 9, 1672, when he was "killed by an ox-cart going over his head." Daughter Mary Upson was married about 1667 to John Welton of Wales while crossing the Atlantic.

The immigrant ancestor Thomas married Elizabeth Fuller on 23 January 1646 (thus one may presume that the first wife died before this date?) in Hartford, CT, and had three more children--Hannah who married Sgt. Samuel Hickock (I am a descendant of Hannah); Elizabeth who died July 20, 1655 (the day after the death of her father); and Stephen, who married Mary Lee.

This information isn't new (the book was published in 1940), but it is consistent with your findings.

I hope this is helpful to your research.
