I do not have your e-mail address, so I must respond through the forum. You have my address wrong. No "c". Just bobinoup@aol.com You are free to contact me directly if you wish. I have Grace Jared's book as well, and it is full of errors. In fact her whole Upshaw lineage in the book is wrong, since she chose the wrong "George Upshaw" to trace. The lineage she shows belongs to George Augustus Upshaw, while her correct lineage (and mine) should be George W. Upshaw. We have no Roanes or Lafons in our line. George W. Upshaw was a carpenter and became a physician only at the age of 64. I have his application to practice so I am certain of this detail and date. I met Mrs Jared, and I know she believed everything she wrote was correct, but when she made that one basic mistake (the wrong George Upshaw) all her research became useless. I had not discovered her mistake at the time I met her, but we nevertheless disagreed on the ethnic origin of Mary Malinda Greenwood. Our family tradition has it that she was either 1/2 or full-blood native american. Indeed we have no proof nor do we have any evidence to disprove it. Her youngest son, my great grandfather, Thomas J. Upshaw claimed to be 1/2 and considered applying for his "indian rights and lands in Oklahoma Territory in 1907". He and his brothers, sons and nephews finally decided not to do that because they were successful physicians in St. Louis MO and would have had to move to Okla Terr to claim those lands. Of course they might have had oil, but no one knew that at that time. I have gone to some length in this reply, and I would have preferred to have sent it direct to you, but you have not revealed your e-mail address. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to consider this further. Are we related? Robert W. Upshaw gr great grandson of George Washington Upshaw and Mary Melinda Greenwood.
