Hi Wisconsin/midwest Uphams
I have in my possession a painting of an elderly Sarah Derby Upham,wife of Alvin Upham (7th generation of John) Holland MA. They had moved from Holland MA to Niles Michigan where he later died in 1852. She then moved with her kids to Racine Wisconsin where she died in september 1878.
The painting is in pretty good condition. My late father had written on the back of the painting's frame that it was Robert Allen Upham's grandmother. My late father being 11th generation and his grandfather Robert Allen Upham of Shawano Wisconsin would then be 9th generation hence Sarah Derby Upham would be his grandmother.
This picture I would guess is also the mother of William Upham, governor of Wisconsin and of the Marshfield, Wisconsin. I plan on getting in contact with the Upham mansion(museum) of Wisconsin to authenticate it and perhaps donate it to the mansion where they can then display it on their website.
As for me keeping the picture. I myself and my brothers are not having any Upham(which would be 13th generation) therefore the branch stops here. So..I figure the picture needs a new home in the future.
