Dear Ms. Augustine:
Yes, I have information on the family of Eden Updike, and am glad to finally know about present-day descendants of Virginia Updikes who went to Ohio and are not covered in Robert Craig's excellent 1985 genealogy, "The Virginia Updikes-Updykes." Mr. Craig lives at 3309 Staunton Ave. SE, Charleston, WV, and has about 100 copies of his 1000-page book left for sale at a cost of $40. I am currently serving as president of the annual Virginia Updike Reunion. The information I have and questions I have raised concerning the origins of John Updike, our common ancestor who came from New Jersey to Virginia about 1750, are in one of my earlier postings on this forum. Eden Updike was a son of Rufus Updike (1753-1838) and Susan "Elizabeth" Ira of Loudoun Co.,VA, and Rufus was a son of John Opdike (1718?-1802?) of Burlington Co., NJ and Loudoun Co., VA. John Opdike/Updike was married twice; Rufus was from his second marriage to Sarah Carker, whereas I descend from one of his sons by his first wife, Sarah Farnsworth. Eden Updike settled in Ohio; his first wife was a Potts, and his second wife was Malinda Updike, his first cousin. Please let me know what you have compiled on your family, and I can also supply you with a lot of information on the Updikes who remained in Virginia.

Thanks,

Bryan Godfrey of Richmond, VA
