Mr. Updike,

I know a lot about your family, thanks mainly to the 1985 Updike genealogy. I visited your Uncles Nelford and Marshall Updike in 1995, as my dad owns a small manufacturing company and machine shop in Hopewell. They are double second cousins of my maternal grandfather, Ray Overstreet, and were all raised near one another in Bedford County. I called your Uncle Marshall two years ago for family updates and he mentioned your Uncle Nelford and wife had moved permanently to Lake Gaston. I'm interested in updates on them.

Because of the many ways my grandfather was related to your father, I have a lot of information on both sides of his family, including Updikes, Overstreets, Creaseys, Williamsons, Woodfords, etc. Interestingly, you have a great-uncle and great-aunt still living whom I saw two weeks ago, Theo and Frankie Overstreet Williamson, who are both around the age of 90 and recently moved into assisted living in Hampton, coincidentally in a room next to my paternal grandmother, and I have become good friends with Mrs. Williamson's niece who looks after them since they have no children.

If you send your e-mail to me at bryangodfrey@msn.com, I can send you attachments showing your father's ancestry and information I have on descendants of Updikes and Overstreets. Also, I have a family tree website with ancestor reports, a report on kinships to famous people, and many old family photographs, including both your Williamson and Updike great-grandparents.

I look forward to hearing from you and getting any updates on your "Hopewell branch" of the Updike family.

Sincerely,

Bryan Godfrey of Richmond, VA
