Tammy,
Michael was the first Upchurch (that we know of) to come to America. He was born about 1620 in England and arrived in America in about 1638. I have in my records that he died in 1681 in Surry Co., Virginia. I would guess that he arrived by boat (sorry, couldn't resist). I'm going to assume that you mean what ship he arrived on. I have never seen any mention of what ship he arrived on, where it sailed from or where exactly in Virginia it landed, but a second cousin of mine wrote in her book that the ship was captained by George Cambell.

The way you word your question makes me think that I somehow implied that he was not the first Upchurch in America and that he did not die in Virginia. But I have re-read what I wrote and I'm not sure where you got the idea that he was not the first Upchurch in America or that he did not die in Virginia. I apologize if I somehow misled you.

Thanks for writing. Good luck to your daughter. E-mail me if you have any more questions.
