Our progenitor, Michael Upchurch I, b. 1624, left behind an array of letters, documents, and legal papers identifying who he was and where he lived. Does anyone have copies of the ACTUAL records so frequently referenced? I'd like to get a copy of what is on file at the court house or other repository – the handwritten records -- for the following: 1) Michael was listed as a headright in two land patents (Nell Nugent, Cavaliers & Pioneers, Abstracts of Virginia Patents and Land Grants, 1623-1666) in 1654: Valentine Patten, grant of 1000 acres, 6 June 1654, Westmoreland County, Virginia; and Robert Hubbard, 1600 acres, October 25, 1654, Westmoreland County. (I have the transcribed notations, but would like to have a copy of the actual handwritten document.) 2) Michael leased land on January 2, 1656, in Surry County from Roger Delke (I have the transcription, but would like to have a copy of the actual hand written lease). 3) Michael Upchurch listed as a tithable at Lawne's Creek Parish Church, Surry County, Virginia, Court Records, book 2, p. 40. 1663, 1668, and 1678. On March 5, 1679 he was exempted from payment of taxes on account of "being old and infirm." (Again, I have transcriptions, but would like to have a copy of the actual written records.) 4) Virginia, Order Book 1, p. 152. On December 4, 1662, Michael witnessed a deed of sale between John Bason (or Mason) and Richard Skinner, Surry County. (this is the only information I have on this transaction -- sure would like more info and especially a copy of the handwritten entry.) 5) Frances Upchurch was ordered to present to the court of Surry County an inventory of the estate of Michael Upchurch (Surry County, Virginia, Orders, 1671-1684) -- I have the transcription, but would like to have a copy of the actual written record 6) Surry County, Virginia, Records, book 2, p. 14. Recorded upside down: Fra. Upchurch, Robert Reynolds, , 5 July 1681. Frances Upchurch granted adm. on est. of Michael Upchurch, deceased. I have the transcription, but would like to have a copy of the actual written record. If you have copies of any of these original handwritten documents, I would be most grateful for a copy. You can contact me direct at upchurch@coxok.com. Thanks much Mae Cox in Oklahoma An 11th Generation Upchurch Notify Administrator about this message?
