One thing puzzles me about your query:
You say that William Lawler joined the United States Army and saw service in the Civil War. If he joined the U.S. Army, then that would mean that he lived in a Northern state and fought for the Union. But I see that you represent the Sons of Confederate Veterans. So did you actually mean to say that William Lawler lived in a Southern state and joined the Confederate Army and fought for the South? Nobody here will be able to assist you properly until you clarify this.
