There was a Jacob Underwood who "pops up" on the Rutherford County TN 1830 census. That part of Rutherford Co. later became Cannon Co., and he is on both the 1840 and 1850 census. He was 50 years old in 1850, but he claimed to be from Virginia. I know settlers from Virginia moved down the Ohio and the Cumberland Rivers and that many settlers in that part of Kentucky did move down into Middle Tennessee. Was Kentucky considered a part of Virginia in the early 1800's? What information do you have about your Jacob? Could he have moved into Middle Tennessee?
