Mary, dau. of Joseph & Martha (Olham) Underhill
I am frankly very surprised that "Underhill Genealogy" and no one on this forum has seems to have found this record:
“[Warrington MM]19th of 8th mo 1762 Alexander Underwood – Mary Underhill
Alexander Underwood of the township of warrington county of york and province of Pencilvania son of Samuel Underwood and Ann his wife and Mary Underhill of Warrington in the County and Province aforesd Daughter of Joseph Underhill deceased and Martha his wife surviving … at their meeting houfe at warrington in the county and province aforesaid the nineteenth day of the Eighth month in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty two..."[Walmer, Margaret B., "100 Years At Warrington, York County, Pennsylvania, Quakers, Marriages, Removals, Births & Deaths," p. 24.For a shorter abstract, see Bates, Marlene Strawser, and Wright, F. Edward, "York County, Pennsylvania, Church Records of the 18th Century," Volume 3, p. 38.
This states that Martha (Oldham) Underhill was still alive in 1762, and might imply that she was living near the Warrington MM (York Co., PA) in 1762.Perhaps she had remarried after Joseph's death?(Among the names of witnesses to this marriage were John, Elizabeth and Henry Clark, and John, Caleb and Thomas Edmundson.)
Soon after their marriage Alexander and Mary (Underhill) Underwood, moved to Cane Creek MM in what is now Alamance Co., NC.I have found no records in NC that indicate that they were of any relationship to the John Underhill of Guilford County, but will note that they seemed to pretty closely shadow each other's movements.
I am very interested in finding more information about Joseph and Martha.I know they were married at the Nottingham MM, but where were they living? And did Martha remarry?to whom?
