Capt. John Underhill was the 1st Underhill to come to America in 1630. He was a part of the Great Migration when Mass. Bay Colony was established. He was one of the first members of the Church established by Winthop and his followers. John was not a rigid Puritan and over the years drifted toward Quakerism. He was a very tolerant man for his time. I don't remember all the particulars but it may well be worth purchasing the 1st two volumes of the Underhill genealogy. There is a lot of information about Capt. John and his ancestors. Several publications about John Underhill may be purchased from the Underhill Society Heritage Corner. I hope that this helps you.
