Iam looking for information beyond my grandfather. John Lewis Umstead,Sr.. He had siblings and I only know of a sister, but her name is unknown to me at this time. My fathers family traveled around alot during the depression and beyond. I have looked through many sights and have found some unidentified pictures that I know are Umsteads but can not connect any names. So as you can see Iam in need of as much help as I can get. My grandfather John,Sr. served under John "Black Jack" Pershing during WWI, and tried to join the hunt for Pancho Villa, but was too young (he was 13) John Pershing sent him home , but, gladly took him in,in WWI. This is about all of the distinguishing information I have on the Umstead family, other than his birth place of W. Virginia and that he resided as a child in the Ohio, PA. areas of Mahoning County. My father was born in New Brighten , PA. in 1937.Grandfathers birth date is July 3rd,1897 he passed in June of 1972. And married Elizabeth "Betty" Kountz in I believe the mid 1920's.
Any information is gladly welcome, and I will be haoppy to share anything I can to help someone else.
